L Í N É A D A C H is powered by our love of the natural Earth. Our fabric is made from the flax plant and our dyes are carefully extracted from seasonal plants.
Founded by a mother and daughter duo who have fused their love for Irish linen and phytotherapy.
L Í N É A D A C H : Gaeilge for linen
Our linen is sourced from a local mill. Our dyes foraged locally or grown in our dedicated dye garden that is based on the shores of Strangford Lough. A unique bio diverse area that is immensely important for nature conservation. Our Cochineal comes from an artisan family farm in Guatiza, Lanzarote. This is where our natural dye journey began whilst living there in the late 90's to 2005. We dabbled with lip tints and dyeing little scraps of fabric using the cochineal we foraged from wild prickly pear cacti that was found around the island.
Cíara then began dyeing more intensely in 2018, after qualifying as a phytotherapist. Using her knowledge of plants to help her extract colours. Suffering from multiple chemical sensitivity, she intensified her mission to live a life free from as many chemicals as possible.
To leave only dust behind.
In our dye studio, we use ground water that has been pumped from deep below the Ards Peninsula to dye and rinse our pieces. Thus reducing the amount of water taken from the local reservoirs. It is also cleaner and salt free.
No synthetic chemicals are used in the production of our pieces, in keeping with our ethos of non toxic living. We also collect rainwater from our allotment shed, which we use for smaller dye projects.
We pride ourselves on being sustainable. Everything we use, is locally produced, grown or foraged and most importantly 100% natural, biodegradable and compostable.
We are a small but dedicated two woman team . Each of us brings our own unique skills and experiences to the table. Pauline brings her expert eye for quality Irish linen after decades of selling Vintage and Antique linens. Cíara combines her knowledge of plants having qualified as a phytotherapist.
